报告题目: Design and Fabrication of Acoustic Precision Materials for the Optimal Sound Absorption

军,博士,加拿大西安大略大学机械工程、材料工程及生物医学工程专业教授,加拿大工程院院士,加拿大第一个工业4.0研发中心(WIN 4.0-Western’s Industry 4.0 Network)主任。具有综合的材料、机械及生物医学工程学术背景,研究领域涉及增材制造/3D打印、印刷电子、微纳制造、物联网、微电子机械系统、超材料、生物芯片、生物仪器、表面科学与工程等。在以上研究领域国际杂志上发表130多篇论文(其中多篇封面文章);拥有26项授权或在审专利;80多次被邀在重要学术会议、研讨会和学术机构作报告。获得过Vanguard Awards 技术转化奖、NSERC Discovery Accelerator奖、施乐UAC奖等,与工业界保持广泛的合作,具有丰富的技术转化、工业产品设计与研发经验,5项研究成果已经成功转让给工业界进行产业开发,其中3项已经进入规模化生产。

Structure-property-function relationships play a central role in science and engineering research. Design, fabrication and control of material structures at all scales of atomic, nano and microscales are significantly important for developing innovative functional materials. As advanced manufacturing techniques develop rapidly, we envision that precision materials, an emerging new class of materials with their structure-property-function relationships precisely designed and controlled, will play a big role in materials engineering and sciences. In this presentation, we will introduce our recent study on acoustic precision materials. Precisely structured acoustic materials may exhibit superior properties for sound absorption and modulation. We investigate sound propagation in microlattice acoustic materials, in order to determine the optimal pore configuration using the maximal sound absorption as the optimization objective. Theoretical, numerical and experimental research has been performed. This study answers a long-unsettled question: “what is the optimal pore structure for sound absorption”. It is found that the optimal sound absorption can be achieved when the pore size is twice the thickness of the viscous boundary layer. For practical use of this study, desired porous configurations and optimal combinations of pore size and porosity were determined according to the overall sound absorption efficiency, providing a guide for design and fabrication/synthesis of high-performance sound absorbing materials.
