报告题目: Topological defects with distinct dipole configurations in PbTiO3/SrTiO3 multilayer films

贾春林,西安交通⼤学教授、德国于利希研究中⼼研究员;1993
年获德国亚琛⼯业⼤学博⼠学位。在氧化物材料及畴界面的亚纳米结构
缺陷与性能,以及定量⾼分辨透射电⼦显微学研究领域做出了具有重要
影响⼒的⼯作。基于球差校正透射电⼦显微镜开发了负球差⾼分辨成像
模式,对导致铁电氧化物自发极化的离⼦位移进⾏了皮米精度测量,实
现对晶体单胞电偶极矩的定量。发表论⽂180 余篇,多篇发表在具有重
要影响⼒的杂志上(Science、Nature Materials、Physical Review Letters,
等 );荣获郭可信杰出科学家奖(2004)、国际显微学联合会(IFSM)
Hatsujiro Hashimoto Medal (2014)、中国电镜学会钱临照奖(2014).

摘要:

Topological structures and defects in ferroelectric and magnetic materials have
been considered as the functional elements in future electronics and attracted great attention
in extensive research [1-3]. Being analogue to magnetic spins in magnetic materials,
orientation of electric dipole moments is the basic order parameter constituting the
topological structures and defects in ferroelectric materials. Here, we report on that, in the
PbTiO3 film layers of the PbTiO3/SrTiO3 multilayer films, dipoles adopt directions
significantly deviating from that allowed by crystal symmetry, forming complex
configurations [4]. In particular, we observe distinct features of the topological defects on
the nanometre scale, including dipole waves and dipole disclinations, which have never
been experimentally observed before. Further atomistic simulations that we conduct here
confirm and explain the existence of the dipole configurations. The observed complexity of
the dipole configurations in the ferroelectric/insulating multilayer systems should stimulate
profound interests in engineering nanometre-scale topological structures and defects in
ferroelectrics.
